Privacy Policy

Lost Ink LLC (“Lost Ink,” “we,” “us”) makes software that turns the handwritten notes on your e-ink tablet into something you can search and act on. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. It covers lostink.ai, app.lostink.ai, the Lost Ink iPhone app, and our tablet integrations.

The short version

• Your notebooks are yours. We use them only to provide Lost Ink to you.
• We don’t sell your information or use it for advertising.
• We don’t train AI models on your notes, and the AI providers we use don’t either.
• People at Lost Ink don’t look at your notebooks unless you ask us to, or we must for security or legal reasons.
• You can delete notebooks at any time, and ask us to delete your account.

What we collect

Account information

Your email address, and your name if your sign-in provider (Google or Apple) shares it. We also keep the identifier your sign-in provider gives us so you can sign in again.

Your notebooks

The pages and files you sync to Lost Ink: page images, PDFs, tablet note files, and pen strokes. From these we create transcriptions, cropped images of your handwriting, summaries, a search index, and the to-dos and dates we find. We also keep the actions you create, their status, and the tags and folders you use.

Planner

If you use the daily planner: your settings (such as time zone, tablet, and which calendars to show), the planner pages we generate, the handwriting you write on them, and the calendar events and reminders you choose to include. For reminders you select from your iPhone, we receive their title and due date.

Connected accounts

• Google Drive and Google Calendar: see “Information from Google” below.
• reMarkable: the access credentials reMarkable issues when you connect, stored encrypted, and the documents in the folders you choose.
• SuperNote: a device token for the Lost Ink plugin (we store only a one-way hash of it) and the pages the plugin sends.
• Notion: your Notion access stays on your iPhone. When you send an action to Notion, it goes directly from your phone to Notion.
• Apple Calendar and Reminders: when you add an action to them, it’s written on your iPhone.

Notifications

If you turn on notifications, a push token for your device and its name. Notifications may include your notebook’s name, the text of an action, and a small image of the handwriting.

Beta waitlist

If you request early access: your email address and which tablet you use. We use these only to invite you to the beta.

Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. Lost Ink has no analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts.

How we use your information

• To provide Lost Ink: reading your handwriting, making it searchable, finding to-dos and dates, building your planner, syncing actions, and sending the notifications you choose.
• To keep the service working and secure, and to fix problems you report.
• To contact you about your account, the beta, and important changes.

We don’t use your information for advertising, we don’t sell it, and we don’t use your notes to train AI models.

Information from Google

If you connect a Google account, Lost Ink receives the following:

• Sign in with Google: your email address, name, and Google account identifier, to create and sign in to your Lost Ink account.
• Google Drive (read-only access): we read the files in the Drive folders you choose, so your tablet notebooks can be imported into Lost Ink. We store copies of those files and a record of each file’s name, location, and version.
• Google Drive (full access, only if you choose it): if you have Lost Ink deliver planner pages to your tablet through Drive, we also upload planner files and move processed files into a “Planner Archive” folder. We ask for this access only when you set up that option.
• Google Calendar (read-only access): we read events from the calendars you choose, to print them on your planner. We store each event’s title, time, and your response status for the planner days they appear on.

We use Google data only to provide these features to you. To read and interpret handwriting, page images from Drive and the event titles printed on your planner are processed by the AI providers listed below. We don’t use Google data for advertising, we don’t sell it, and neither we nor our providers use it to train AI models. People at Lost Ink don’t read your Google data unless you ask us to, it’s needed for security, or the law requires it.

Lost Ink’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

You can disconnect Google in Lost Ink’s settings, which deletes the connection and our stored access to your account. You can also remove Lost Ink’s access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Who helps us process your information

We use the following service providers. Each receives only what it needs to do its job for Lost Ink.

• Supabase: database, file storage, and sign-in.
• Vercel: hosts our website and web app.
• Modal and Trigger.dev: run page processing, syncing, and planner jobs.
• Google (Gemini API): reads handwriting and page images, interprets planner pages, and powers search.
• OpenAI: finds to-dos and dates, and powers search and summaries.
• Microsoft Azure: text recognition on page images.
• Apple: push notifications and Sign in with Apple.
• Cloudflare: secure connections to processing computers that Lost Ink operates. Some of your pages are processed on this hardware.

Our AI providers process your content under terms that don’t allow them to use it to train their models. They may keep copies for a limited period (typically 30 to 55 days) to detect abuse, then delete them.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect the safety and security of our users and service, or as part of a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.

How long we keep it, and deleting it

• Notebooks: when you delete a notebook, it goes to the trash and is permanently deleted after your trash period. That’s 30 days by default, and you can change it in settings, including to delete right away.
• Planner handwriting: kept while your account exists, so the planner can read it again, and deleted with your account.
• Your account: email privacy@lostink.ai and we’ll delete your account and its data within 30 days.
• Waitlist: kept until you join the beta or ask us to remove it.
• Backups: deleted data can remain in our backups for a limited time before it’s overwritten.

Security

Data travels to and from Lost Ink over encrypted connections, your files are kept in private storage, and the credentials for your connected accounts are stored encrypted. No system is perfectly secure. If you find a security problem, please tell us at security@lostink.ai.

Your choices and rights

You can see, change, and delete your notebooks in Lost Ink, and disconnect any connected account in settings. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request a copy of your information, correct it, or have it deleted. Email privacy@lostink.ai and we’ll respond within 30 days.

Where your information is processed

Lost Ink stores and processes your information in the United States, and our service providers may process it in the United States or other countries. If you use Lost Ink from outside the United States, your information will be transferred there.

Children

Lost Ink isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We’ll post any changes here and update the date above. If a change is significant, we’ll also let you know by email or in the app before it takes effect.
